Are You Eating Enough??? (ft. Coach George)

  December 22, 2015

Hey guys, are you eating enough?  What are your new years resolutions?  Do you want to loose weight?  Do you want to maintain the weight you are at?  I’m going to say the most popular resolution is to loose weight, so with that being said are you eating enough to loose weight?

Yes, that’s correct, you may need to eat more to actually loose weight.  As CrossFit athletes we are training at a very high intensity and burning a ton of calories in a short WOD.  Those need to be replaced throughout the day with quality protein, carbohydrates and fat.  (AKA macros)  Our bodies like consistency, so you can use a macro calculator such as “Eat to Perform” or “healthyeater.com” to get an idea of how many calories you should eat in a day.  This will also give you a good starting point on the correct percentages of the three macros.

Usually you will want to be around 30% protein-40% carbs-30% fat.  Quality foods such as garden vegetables, especially greens, lean meats, nuts and seeds, little starch, and no sugar will fuel your body with energy and jump start your fat loss resolution.  Remember it is important to supply your body with the correct fuel for energy for these high intensity workouts.  Without the proper fuel your body will hold onto stored fat and start burning muscle tissue for energy.  As your muscle mass decreases so does your metabolism.  Essentially, not eating enough can have the opposite effect of what you’re trying to achieve!

Keep in mind consistency is on your side if you are trying to loose weight.  If you figure your caloric intake and it says to eat 2000 calories per day then stick with it. As long as you are eating QUALITY foods you will see results.  If any of you need help in figuring these numbers just get with one of us and we can get you started in the right direction.
