When did you join R2R?

May 2015

Why did you join?

I had been going to a regular gym closer to home, but I wasn’t getting anywhere with it. I would print off workouts from the internet, but there was no one there to show you how to do anything. I didn’t have a partner to work out with either. It was too easy to skip a day and with no one there to help motivate me, I just didn’t feel like I was accomplishing anything. I finally decided to jump way out of my comfort zone and try CrossFit, and I love it!! I always feel like I am going to die when the workout is over so I know I am getting more out of it. I am also not as worried about hurting myself because there is always someone there to coach.

What changes have you noticed since starting?

I have a lot more energy when I am working out regularly. I had to take the winter off due to basketball and I could tell a huge difference when I started back on how much better I felt.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about joining?

Don’t be intimidated!!! I was very nervous when I first started. I struggle with talking to new people so walking in the door alone was a big step for me. Then, I was the only person in my fundamentals class too!! I really didn’t know if I would be able to do the workouts or not. But, everyone was awesome!! The workouts were scaled to my ability. They pushed me, but I never feel like I’m not “in-shape” enough to be there, and I always feel like I have accomplished something when I leave.

What is your favorite WOD?

I don’t really know the names of them. But, when I realized that I could actually jump, I really like doingbox jumps.

What is your favorite activity outside of CrossFit?

I love to ride motorcycles, garden, and hang out with my family.

What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?

I think the box jumps would also be my big accomplishment. I was always intimidated by the large box so I used a small one. Just a few weeks ago it was in the WOD and I almost skipped working out. Had some people help me start small and work my way up, and I could do it!! I would have never believed I could jump up on that box without face planting. It felt awesome to finish the workout that day!!

What is your favorite healthy meal?

I really like grilled chicken that has been marinated in Italian dressing with grilled asparagus.

Who/what inspires you the most?

My family inspires me to stay active. Kids learn from example and I want my kids to know that eating healthy and exercising is important. I also think my age is getting to me. I’ve always been an active person, and I am just not ready to let that go.
